4000 on the bay

Well, mine never had a cap, & always lacked the bottom that a 4001 has below F#. It's not a huge difference, but noticeable. I'd compensate on the amp.
The treble & mids are more pronounced too. The lack of a rout for a neck pup, the set neck (and lack of 2 glue joints through the body) definitely make it resonate differently.
More bite & harmonics come through, particularly with rounds on it.
Not like a P, or a J with one pup solo'd. Raw & different. It's definitely it's own personality.
Cuts through a muddy mix easily.

Plus five minus five!
I thought so too, Dave! I'm the lucky winner of this baby (those horrendous photos on ebay do it no justice at all.....)
and am very happy with it. It's in very nice shape, and that Azure-glo color is starting to grow on me. I couldn't stand it the first time I saw it, on a 620 6-string. When doing an A-B comparison with my 4001C64, the first thing I
noticed was that it sounds more powerful. All thinks being equal; amp volume, using the same pickup and tone settings, the 4000 definitely is louder with more punch. I had to turn up the amp volume to get the 4001 up to the same level.
Anybody care to comment on this? Thanks-Les

I love everybody;I hate everybody.
Likewise.....my 4000, although lacking the depth of my 4001s and the 4003s I've played, is much more aggressive and (to me) sounds more powerful. Congrats on the buy, I would've really loved that bass (azure is my favourite colour and I'm totally lacking an azure at the moment!)
