FWIW, I'm Back!

Post by fran4001 »

I used to be here all the time back in the very early days, but got way too busy to stay active. I did lurk frequently, but always had to take care of business and move on. I even forget my old screen name, although I think it might have been fran4001 or fxf4001 or something, anyway the name's Fran, and I'm going to try to get involved. And it's great to see some of the old names, and so many new ones!

Welcome back! Feels odd saying that, since you've been here long before me, but what the heck Image

Well Jeez, thanks guys! I'm trying to think of a worthwhile subject as we speak. I do know I'm a little rusty with the latest Ric info, but okay up to a few years ago. And unfortunately, although my bass collection has grown to 16 and guitars 3, my Rics are down to one, my '91 Chris Squire, cert.#207, and in our registry here. I think I peaked at 4 basses here at once in the registry, but sold them off. I went Fender and Hofner crazy before they got too expensive!

Welcome back, Fran! So is your 4001CS your main player?

Hey Gary! The Ric comes out maybe twice a month. Unfortunately, as great as it sounds, it's not exactly the right bass for my band, which is a covers band, 70s through now, leaning towards funky stuff. And we play 8-10 times a month. It's good for some of it, but my Jazz Basses usually get the nod since they're a little more all-purpose sounding. I'm a huge Squire fan, so I'm torn, but I have to be realistic. Also, I have recorded lots with it, and still will do that. I knew when I got it, it wasn't going to remain a dustless-fingerprintless museum piece. I actually put several miles on her, and she's got some worn chrome and a few chips. Basses do me no good sitting in cases. I try to make sure they all get out and make music.

Hey Fran - welcome back!

You'll want to get yourself a 4004 Cii. It'll fit right in with your band!

cheers!

Thanks Andy! And yes, 4004s do make me weak in the knees. That blue NAMM one in particular is a heartbreaker. I'm keeping my eye out for something along those lines.

Good job Fran... anyone who takes their "rare and collectible" instruments that "no one should touch" and honors them by doing what they were meant for... rules!

I salute all of you members who do!
What do you mean the Bass is too loud???

From what I've been reading I'd stay away from midnight blue...

Not anymore. They apparently fixed the problem by switching the type of blue paint they use.

Yeah, how 'bout that "bleeding" problem. I didn't read that post carefully yet, and it's around on a few different forums, but my guess is Ric would have to make good on that. You'd think it would have to be an isolated incident, but, it would be interesting (not good though!)if more complaints surface about this color. I still love the trans-blue look though. Actually, trans-anything on the 4001 shape really looks great to me!
