On the funny side, and knowing the Ono tension that was there, "Turning Japanese" by the Vapors would have been funny (John on lead vocal, of course).
On a slightly more serious note, I'd have loved to have heard an album of Soul/R&B covers in the late 60s. "Soul Man" for example, or "Standing In The Shadows Of Love", maybe.
I got a CD recently called "John Lennon's Jukebox". It's two CDs made up of songs that were on a jukebox that belonged to Lennon sometime during the mid 60s. He was a very big fan of R&B and I think they could have done at least as good a job interpreting Motown-style music as the Stones did.
Beatles covering songs by others..

"Lennon had apparently bought the jukebox – specifically a Swiss KB Discomatic – in 1965, and filled it with forty singles to take with him on tour. Midwinter spent several years restoring the box and researching the discs catalogued within in Lennon's spidery handwriting."
Its interesting to note that
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lennon's_jukebox
has a different listing..... which only makes sense since a jukebox is designed to chance over time.
