I'm VERY tempted to get the 4004Cii/5 Trans Green from Ed Roman's but I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger. Knowing I'd shell out $2400 for a bass that needs major work just doesn't sit well with me.
I'll have to settle for having my 4004Ci strung BEAD.....and I could buy two brand spankin' new 4004 Laredo's for the price of the Cii/5.

It was only 300 for the job, and that included a new brass nut and a complete setup. Action was lowered a bit, and OH BABY it plays like a whipped cream butter dream. Not to be confused with the plays like "butter" or an_l leakege. ROFL - I ordered a TB, but I got the TG. I love it. Any colour would be fine for me. I play, not look at em lol...besides I can't see or hear all that well anymore. Jeff got a cure for ageing??
Do it Brian. Get it while you can. You will kick yourself for not getting it.

cure for aging ... yep ... I am 51 and people think I am 35 ... I apply simple scientific biochemical principles ... I pursue good health like my life depends on it ... that way I will live a long time ... long enough to see the new 4004CII5 ... if they fix the problem in 6 months and given the 18 month wait for new orders ... that means the best case scenario is you can get one in 2 years ... but if it is on the back burner then maybe 3 years or more ... boy am I glad I make my own 5 string basses ...

Well, about the alternative medicine....that is a dead horse. About the 5 string, OTOH, I have gotten some pretty good info to base my decision on.....and I have read nothing in any discussion that leads me to believe I'll see a the Cii/5 being produced anytime soon. So that leaves me with three options....
.....continue with my BEAD Ric
.....buy Ed Roman's overpriced Trans Green Cii/5 and drop another $400 in it to make it right
.....spend my money on a non-Ric
There are some valid points being made and it is only a "dead horse" when the issue is resolved.......retrofit existing models and/or resume production with a revised design. There is no info about anything being done so the only alternative is to speculate.

I seriously considered that TG 5 way back in the spring/summer but I just couldn’t get myself to lay out that kind of money to that Vegas Basstard! Some of you may recall me asking if he could actually charge that kind of money - whatever
When RIC pulled the model, I went out and got myself a Lakland to carry me over. It’s a great bass that I really enjoy playing.
I had my money down on a Cii 5 that was ordered over tow years ago. I wasn’t happy about the bass being pulled from production but I understand why that was. What got me upset was the cancellation of all outstanding orders. But OK I’m over that now!
Bottom line:
¨ I won’t pay Mr. Ed that price even though it’s the bass I really want
¨ This gave me an opportunity to try out another bass from another manufacturer and I really enjoy playing that bass
¨ I’ll reorder when RIC puts the Cii 5 back into production.
¨ If someone on this forum that owns two wants to sell one – let me know
¨ I’ll continue to love and play my 2 Cii 4 strings
