Who would pay this much for a 1976?

That's the same seller apparently who sold this for $2,089.84!
Once again, all the bidders appear genuine with well established accounts, and there's no suggestion of collusion, as none have bid on both auctions. I don't know how he does it.

What is the World coming to?
1976 Rickenbacker 4001 Fireglo Bass
$1,400.00 without a hard case, no pick-up cover, no switch tip, non-original pickguard and worn frets.
A bargain compared to $2,495.00 maybe...
or maybe not!

Well... I can imagine what you guys were saying when I eBayed my '77 18 months+ ago. I was not aware of this place when I bid and won (and apparently beat out Chris Pappas based on a friendly comment he made when I made my first ever post here in the "Post a photo of you playing your RIC" thread almost exactly one year ago).
I paid $1005 for a white/white trim 77 4001 in 7 out of 10 condition because I wanted only a white on white one. That's the only 4001 I've ever been interested in since a friend had a new one when I was 17 (and I lusted after it deeply).
So, while I see these prices and think "I'm glad I got mine when I did" I tend to allow people to be motivated by more than simple market economics when it comes to luxury goods, which electric guitars most definitely are.

I know that in the USA these prices are over the top, but by UK standards they are quite reasonable.

Everything's expensive in the UK. When I was there last year for spring break, I kept forgetting to ask for tap water, and I was being charge like 3 pounds for bottled water. It's really strange to not have people assume you want FREE water . . . if your options are bottled water for the equivalent of $6.00 a glass or tap water for nothing, I'll take the tap water, thank you! In the US, "water" means "free water", and "bottled water" means "bottled water". In the UK, "water" means "bottled water", and "tap water" means "free water". It was confusing and frustrating to say the least . . .
