In praise of the 610

Post by BobKat »

This is my semi-annual "I love 610s" thread. Had my 610 out tonight to put grommets under the toasters I just swapped in and man, do I love that guitar. I'll barely look at a 620 twice- the contour of the body by the player's arm, the uninterrupted fireglo flowing over the edges of the guitar, and the simple clean dots on the fretboard just really knock me out.

610s just rock.

After lamenting about not being able to buy Bob's lefty 330/12 FG due to a major home repair, I was finally able to snag another lefty the other day - a 610/12 JG.
It's my first 12 and I love it!

I love my 610 JG. out of all my guitars (Gibson 335, Eppi Casino, 330/12JG) the 610 is the one I always grab. You can do anything on them from Beatles to heavy distortion. I play through AC30 and Fender twin. 610 is the best solid body on the market and does look, feel and sound better
Do the toasters make much diference?

I've always wanted a 610 6 or 12 in white-on-white. I think that the white 620 on p.26 in the Bacon and Day book is sweet.

Geoff, they do. The scatterwound 7.4K toasters are great pickups. But the 610, sadly, is no longer "on the market." They discontinued it 10 years ago, much to my chagrin.

Rob, a 610/12 lefty must be as scarce as hen's teeth. Please, pics!

I posted an update to the WTB 610 post in the Wanted section. I am really fixated on getting a 6 to go with my 12 and will pay a finder's fee of $100 to anyone who points me to a 610 in FG or MG that I eventually buy.
