That's a really neat modification, Brian. Very slick. When you said you were going to Blackstar it, I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, but it does look really good. Now I dare you to play it in the dark!

Looks great Brian! Is the fingerboard finish going to hold up well to string wear? Maybe Paul can comment on this.

It holds up fine on Blackstars so I see no reason why this should be any different. The clear finish on my other Rics has held up fine as well. The string rides on the fretwire so it shouldn't be a problem at all.

Conversion varnish is pretty tough stuff. As Brian said, it holds up well on Blackstars (Tuxedos, Rednecks).

Unless you fret REALLY hard, or the frets are very worn, wear shouldn't be an issue.
Be careful at the end of the fretboard if your action is really low. The strings on my 4000 have chewed through the finish & into the wood (from some VERY aggressive playing).

It looks great Brian! I had been thinking about getting a 4004L Jetglo. Your project makes me want to get one also and do something similar...but also turn it into a 5 string.

I had that thought also Joey. I could have drilled and plugged the headstock to get three tuners up top and had Paul refinish it with the neck. Having a finish line or blend mark on the rear of the neck wouldn't bother me much if it couldn't be avoided short of refinishing the whole bass.

The main reason I kept it a 4 string was because it was brand new and I was worried about killing it's "vibe"....it is a great player. Plus I have my Ci strung BEAD so I don't really "need" a fiver.
