I have always wanted a John Birch bass (Jim Lea from Slade used one for years and the rest of Slade had JB work on their guitars). Old JB's are collectors items.
I was told by a friend who is a big style JB fan that a 'Ric-style' stereo bass was available, along with some other JB's and after a little thought and talking to The Exchequer (Mrs 12String), I decided to go have a look.
It plays great and was well worth the money to me.

Article on my site regarding Jim Lea's John Birch bass... which helps explain why I wanted the Ric style bass so much, despite it sounding nothing like a Ric at all..
