UPS Aircraft fire in Philadelphia, Wed 2/8/06
FYI in case you have a shipment going through Philly. The plane was landing when it had a nasty cargo hold fire. No one injured, but I think all the cargo was destroyed. Philly is a giant UPS hub.

FYI.. Per the local news...
Only three of the airport's four runways are operational. But the plane is still smoldering and blocking one of the two main runways at the airport.
Flames shot out of a UPS cargo plane as the plane landed just after midnight Wednesday morning at Philadelphia International Airport.
The crew had declared an emergency and the plane was met by fire and rescue crews as it touched down.
The crew members got off the plane and were taken to a hospital but were checked out and later released.
The fire was declared under control just after 4 a.m. though the plane continued to smolder.
The plane was UPS Flight 1307 from Atlanta to Philadelphia.
Airport spokesman Mark Pesce says the airport canceled flight operations during the night, but most of those were cargo flights.
He urges people planning to travel on or meet flights to check the status of the flights on the www.phl.org Web site.
UPS spokesman Mark Guiffre says the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the fire. He says the plane was filled with normal customer packages.

Stick with UPS, guys and gals.
I had a customer back East send me a guitar via good ol' FedEx (who you know I detest dearly). He shipped it beginning of last week. It arrived in Sacramento (not SF) last Thursday and then promptly disappeared. It was supposed to arrive here last Thursday, six days ago.
We both put a trace on it. Two days later, we found it on a truck, headed for Chicago.
It has been turned around and will probably arrive here Friday or Monday. That will be over two weeks for a three--day delivery.
This is par for the course for FedEx in the Bay area, unfortunately. 6 for 6, not one making it on time. Some taking two or three phone calls to resolve.
Pathetic.
UPS: about 400 deliveries in the last year, all on time. Only damage was Melissa's.
Sorry about that, Melissa...

Hopefully no one on the forum lost anything of value but possessions can be replaced. People can't. I am glad that the crew made it off that aircraft safely.
