Oh absolutely. There are stiffer woods to use as a laminate though...or you could just laminate more maple (I believe there are several laminates in the current necks, but oriented differently). As for the look, well, it's a matter of taste I guess...

The stripe on a Fender is not to add stiffness, but is used to fill the truss rod routing.
No matter where you go - there you are.

I would still like to see a bass with a skunk stripe AND walnut wings (4002's were like that were they not?). I would kill for one of those I think...

Bruce at Gigstreet sold a mapleglow 4002 last year , John. It was in nice condition. I kick myself for not picking it up ...I had no idea that they were as rare as they are. I was just so used to seeing Blair's fretless 4002 all the time.

I think he was looking for $1500 at the time but he e-bayed it and I think it went down south.

Burn... that would have been a great price.

That seems to be his general " Ric in good shape" price. There was a brown Autumglow ( I think it was before the monte brown colour of the year) that he sold about a year before that.

It was gorgeous but it went on e-bay before I could think of trying to get it. At the time I had it on my mind that I was going to get an older fireglo... eventually I did find one.

He also had a pretty beat up jetglo 4000 that went for around twelve. I think that one is still around town but I don't know who has it.

In the old days you used to see them hanging at Musicstop so there's more of them around than you might think.
