Abbott, it's great to see another lefty! But what's with the pillow? You in the dog house?

Peter, there are no potential doghouse excursions in my life. I have total freedom, including having whatever pillows I like on my couch. If I had a "significant other" it would by pretty unlikely I'd be having an Ampeg SVT in the living room along with my 8 foot speakers. Now if you noticed the other bass in the photo I'd by truly impressed. Lefties- "the only people in their right minds". From day 1 when a friend handed me his bass-"no you are holding it the wrong way" it just didn't feel "right" holding it like a righty. Funny how that is-it really shouldn't matter when you are a beginner, you still have to develop dexterity in both hands, yet like I said, it just didn't feel "right" holding it the other way. So I borrowed a spare righty from my buddy, did not restring it, and proceeded to learn with the strings upside down. After about 6 months playing, I took the plunge into my first lefty-the Ric you see in the photo-boy I was scared at the beginning-I knew nothing all over again, but persistence paid off. I can still pick up righties and play them a bit. I get a lot of looks and comments in music stores doing this. I tell them "if there was a lefty in the house I'd pick it up". It's tough picking out what you like in a bass by trying out the righties and then deciding to special order a lefty. Luckily, when my Ric arrived, I liked the way it felt even though I couldn't really play it at first. Yes we live in a righty world, and when my Ric arrived, I didn't realize it was going to have a "righty headstock". I thought "couldn't they have made me a "real" lefty"? Then at some point after getting it, I noticed Macca's was the same way-if he didn't get a "lefty neck", there was no way I was going to get one. Nowadays, I love the "upside down" headstock. I get a laugh too when friends pick it up and grown about it being such a beauty and not being able to play it-"now you know how I feel" I tell them.
