The same seller has more 'original' stuff available. Check the 1973 4001 bass.
To me that it's from 1977/78, not 1973!
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

I just sent him an e-mail looking for the serial number. I am very interested in the response.

I wonder if he will be able to find it...

I got this.
I have painfully learned a great deal this morning and can only surmise that
this instrument was cobbled up with a 1964 serial number plate before it was
traded to me years ago. Sorry for any inconvenience. I have ended the
listing, of course.

The "1973 4001" is still up & it isn't a '73 as Sergio points out.
It's not hard to find out but then some like to plead ignorance...

When a copy sells for about the same as some used original Ricks something has got to be wrong. Check it out.

How can a store get away with selling a Ric copy with a Ric truss rod plate? Image

Ahh, another great copy! This one fake is so obvious it's unreal! Check it out.

Apparently the seller doesn't know s*** about bass guitars.

What do you expect from a seller with a name like that?

It would almost be worth buying these things to rip the nameplates off so that they were out of circulation. Fortunately, this auction will be history soon.
