Blondie Rickenbackers

Caught a bit of 'Rage' last night and there was a video clip of Blondie doing 'Heart Of Glass'. I definitely spotted one Rickenbacker - possibly a 360/6 FG. There was another which looked a lot like an older 450 or 'tulip' style Rick. Black with large white guard.

Anybody got any further info on the players and guitars?

There was a video after their first bass player left with Chris Stein on bass duties - playing a 3001!

I've seen old videos with Chris Stein playing a 3001 bass, 450 JG, and 450/12 FG. In the early days, you can also see many old Vox amps in their backline. Obviously both Chris and the drummer had major 1960's musical influences.

Clem is one of the best pop/rock drummers out there, in my book. I like guys who hit hard and play with a lot of energy!

I got to play with Clem live at a NYC gig my band did. Our drummer got out to do a couple of his solo hits and Clem got up behind the kit. It was like a locomotive driving the band! We became neighbors in LA and he is a VERY pleasant person to hang with.

Oh! And don't let's forget his stint with Eurythmics.

And I agree with Steve Cooper: Clem is a great pop/rock drummer. Fabulous pop instincts. Even if he uses an old "cliche" type of fill or pick up, he addresses it with such commanding force it becomes very fresh again.

Give me Burke or give me Watts!

Clem did a great job with The Plimsouls back in the 90's.

I caught the 'souls reunion gig at SXSW back in the 90's and their Austin tour show.

Speaking of the Plimsouls, George, were you and Eddie Munoz old high school buddies? Tom say he remembers Eddie coming over to your place back in the day.

Yes, Eddie and I were close friends. In fact the first band I was in with Carla was a band Eddie and I put together (The Warp Factor Five). We never left the rehearsal studio though.

I've seen a couple of Blondie videos with the bassist playing a 3000 not a 3001.

Wow... I'm really glad to hear other people appreciate Clem's drumming. For a while there I thought I was the only one who regarded him as one of the great rock drummers of ALL TIME.

One of my favorite Blondie songs is "The Thin Line", specifically because of Clem's drumming. In the liner notes of "Platinum" I think he says it's one of his least favorite tunes. Sounds like fun, to me!
