Ooooh. Exactly like my white '73. I'll bet it has the same thin neck. A bit pricey though, wouldn't you say? I got mine for $1,250.

I'm actually glad the seller doesn't accept PayPal or ship overseas... because I just can't justify another one right now.

Sweet! ND 2008... My 'all black' April '74 4001 is ND 2485. Maybe RIC built a large number of 4001 basses with a black pickguard & TRC in April 1974. Well, anyways, grab that white 4001, anyone!

My '75 4001 White looks like that one except slightly battered and it has the 1 inch pickup spacing, but has the black plexi TRC.

Seriously, that finish is GORGEOUS . . . I wonder, though, if that's a signal that it hasn't been played much, and you gotta wonder why . . . still, it's beautiful.

Two questions:

1) Were any White 4001's made with checkerboard binding and crushed pearl full-width inlays?

2) These early white ones don't seem to yellow like later ones. Does it have anything to do with different additives in the finish that can no longer be used?

1) Yes, definitely.
2) I should think so.

That 1st photo looks "whitened" check along the edge of the body and the heel of the neck-looks yellower. White is an extremely hard color to digitally photograph and view on a monitor, while keeping the tint true to life. Strange that the other photos aren't as white. I'm not saying this was an intentional whitening on the part of the seller.

If you look at it blown up, you can see "yellow shadows" under the strings. Probably used a pretty intense light to photo. Could have overexposed the picture, pushed the exposure, played with the white balance etc... I'm no camera expert though.
