The sad thing about the Bassmaster is it has no bass, I just had a Buddy's Bassmaster brain as he wanted me to check it out, and with the bass, and bass expander controls turned all the way up, and the treble, and treble expander controls turned all the way down, I still could not use this as a bass brain,{no bass} I have had the Bassmaster markII,{more power}, and the Custom Special,Traynors Showman, and both of those brains worked for bass. Every time I see Jeff's Traynor cabs, I go back in time to when I had that stuff tube arc, or pop a speaker, I'd stick it in the car and drive it down to Yorkville and generally wait to have it fixed, and off I'd go. I wish I still had my Custom Special brain{cs966} and the folded Goodman 18" that I used to own. It sounded great as well as recorded great.....2cents

My first bass amp, in the early to mid '70s, was a YBA-3 Custom Special, as I recall it sounded great with lots of bottom end. For a while in the '80s I had the guitar version of the YBA-1 and it too, sounded great for bass also, with plenty of bottom end to it. Perhaps your buddy's Bassmaster has a problem that needs to be rectified.
In the mid to late '70s I had the 2-15 version of the YS-15 cab, the YT-15. I have been looking for a pic of it on the net but all I can find is the newer version with the bumpers, mine was the earlier one without the bumpers. It had EVM15L speakers in it and I used a Sunn Concert Bass amp (the later version) with it. Nice combination with the mid '70s 4001 I was playing at the time.

Cale, I'm sure you will eventually find one, it took quite some time for me to find the two of these. They are out there. Another option would be to make one. I think Dr. Bass could custom make one for you, or there is a guy that Scott Doseck knows who can build one for you. I can send you the dimensions if you need them.

Richard, i definitely agree with you on the tone controls, though.. not a lot going on there until you get it wound up a bit (as i understand it, the 'range' controls are a neg. feedback circuit that react similarly to a presence cntrl.).
That's funny, Jeffrey.. i was looking at some Dr. Bass cabs just a few hours before you posted that! Seems to be very reasonable, and well built stuff.. The last YS-15 i saw was in Canada (naturally!), and i should've picked it up, but you know.. being on tour, havin' no money.. good times!

I used to have a Bassmaster Mark II as well as a Custom special, and they both had tone, my first real speaker cab I had was the 2-15 version of what Jeff has, only back then they had Marsland speakers in them. My tube tech guy in town here has Jeff's 2 cabs w D140's in them as well as the Custom special brain, and the old Burns bass with the mad dog control,{yah wild dog}, but he always loves my 66 Showman, magnavox V4B, and my Selmer SVT more when he gets to work on them, and then he gets to play his mad dog bass thru them.
