On tube amps and rics

Tonight we played a show... and it was nice to be able to use my tube YBA200 traynor head and cab in a settign that it was made for. Playing it at very low volume in my room made me almost forget how insanely good my rics sound through it at proper volume. Real bite in the tone... lots of tube grit, lots of compliments.

Rics + tube = heaven

Tone like that makes me happy to play bass.

Yes.

I usually play through my Hartke in our practice space, and at home I've been playing through a Fender combo in my living room for the past three months while my Mesa Bass 400 just sits in my bedroom...

Well, I just dragged it into the living room two nights ago(along with the Eden 210T), and it's really like hearing it for the first time again..

What a great sound.

(and yes, it sounds even nicer at full gallop...just like my beloved musclecars..)

I like my gain around 2 o'clock... bass around 10 o'clock, highs around 1-2 o'clock (tweeter on full), mids around 3 o'clock (range adjusted to focus on high mids). I use fingerstyle and low action... so if I play soft I get a cleaner sound... and when I dig in I get some overdriven dirt and fret buzz that adds to the grit. Love it!!!!

I use the standard sovtec tubes... rotosounds on my 4003, elixirs on my 4001's. The YBA200 is Only 41 pounds too... so easy to lift.

Makes me want ot go home right now and blast the baby... make the neighbours angry.

What does the Fulltone Bass Drive do for you Bob? I use a boss odb3 super overdrive for one song. It's a one trick pony (boost the gain and blend) to give a real angry fuzz sound... but it cuts like an angry chainsaw and got me a few great comments last night.

Selling my one-trick-pony boss (though a nice trick) and getting a used fulltone (or new in canada) is looking tempting. Now I just need to find one.

I started a thread a few weeks ago in the bass section called "Just one pedal". A few people hear recommended the Fulltone, so after reading all the positive reviews I bought one.
This pedal is amazing, and you will notice the difference right away with your tone. The pedal really keeps your original tone but it enhances it somehow. It's hard to explain. It only took me a few minutes to find a setting I really like, and now I just leave it alone. Mine has the three way toggle on it, and I like the comp-cut setting the best. I especially find it useful playing finger style. I developed a bad habit of playing to hard and uneven with my middle finger, and this pedal evens everything out.
It makes a hack player like myself sound relatively decent. I bought mine here, but I don't know if they ship to Canada.

I have read the reviews... sound positive. I get that it is top of the line for bass overdrive, but if you are expecting a chainsaw then you might be disapointed. Trying to emulate a tube sound when I have a tube amp is also kind of silly, especially for the price. But then it would be nice to have a distortion option at a push of a button that sits somewhere in between chainsaw (my boss) and clean. Hopefully it can also go harsh because it would be nice to rid myself of the boss

I am about to pull the trigger on a new one in canada. The compression sounds like a good thing to me... for faster bits I use 3 fingers to play and it can get a little uneven at times.

Yea, I knew you had a tube amp, same setup as mine, but that's not what I bought the pedal for.
Mostly compression.
I think you will be surprised what this pedal can do. IMHO it's worth the premium price.
Let me know what you think when it comes in.
