Did Dillion make a Ric copy?

Post by beatlenut »

Just curious. I heard there is one in town, but it doesn't have a brand on it and they said it is discontinued.

No they didn't. John Dillion knows better than to clone a RIC.

I should mention that John Dillion also told me that he never made a Ric copy.

You make it sound like it's okay to copy ANY brand of guitar as long as it's not a RIC. I'm not saying it's right, and guitar cloning is wrong overall, but should I mention that Dillion has copied Gibsons, Fender, and Mosrites as well?

It is ok IF the instrument isn't copy righted, trade marked or whatever they call it. The reason you see so many strat/les paul clones is that the respective companies didn't legally protect their instruments.

If Gibson, Fender, Mosrite and PRS had been smart or cared enought to register their instruments as trade marks of their companies, the clones wouldn't exist now, would they.

Rickenbacker were smart enough to cover their assets. John Dillion will never clone any Rickenbacker because he knows that he will be sued to the full extent of the law if he does.
