Even with all of his money, I still think Kid Rock is a joke. I saw him at the Ritz in '86ish and he was a joke then, and is still a joke to me.
But hey, he's doing fine for himself and good for him. I still wonder how the heck he fools people into thinking he is good.

"I still wonder how the heck he fools people into thinking he is good."

It's simple- the average music buyer has been dumbed-down by mainstream media to THINK he is good. It's the same reason Britney Spears and such are so popular- because you hear on the news that ther are popular.

It's that reason tat a group, like, say, the Meters, would never do as well today.

I think people have been dumbed down to pop music for years before now, though. Like, listen to some of the junk that was popular in the 80s . . . there's plenty of great stuff, and also lots of complete ****. I know of less junk from the 70s (though some stuff that I consider junk from that period, some would consider great music *cough*Styx*cough*), but still. There have always been artists that are inexplicably popular . . . it's probably just a combination of really good marketing and paid exposure.

Well, I tried to arrange a viewing, but the seller is tied up with business commitments. Also, has been inundated with people who came to “pull and poke at it, waste my time and make me totally inadequate cash offers. For this reason I’m not inviting any more viewings.” He did offer to take more photographs if required.

Sorry folks...

Lars, now can we rally the troops?

We should be on this tool like a bowl of Rice Krispies, smack , crackle, pop.

Jon, a gallant effort. This guy cannot be a proper Englishman can he?

Damn, gotta go,Oprah is on again.
I'm just happy to be here.

Despite the tone of the bit of his reply I quoted here, overall his reply was a lot more courteous than the one he gave Ted. I am tempted to let him know that the fact he used two photographs of other basses makes it impossible to bid on this bass without seeing it in the flesh.

As I'm Scottish, it's probably best I don't comment on what constitutes a proper Englishman ;-)

(Really, I don't have a problem with the English at all.)

Was the Oprah a good one?

The seller is certainly making it tough to like him. First he uses pictures of two other basses as his own (and with an attitude, no less) then he rejects requests for drop-in inspections promised in his auction text. I don't know if he is legit or not but there are a few red flags on the course.

Jon, a Scotsman!? You know how God stopped the Scotch from ruling the world? (sorry, old joke)

The English threw my Mom's family, McLaughlin, out of Ireland and into Scotland. She got back at England by marrying an Englishman. Boy was my Dad sorry. Come to think of it, I would never have bought a Rick from him either. It would be all ******** up.

I've yet to see a good Oprah. It doesn't stop me from watching. I must move the TV out of my practice room.

Brilliant Lars, I thought you would join the posse. We got him surrounded now.
I'm just happy to be here.
