Hofner 50th Anniversary Cavern Model

Hofner is bringing back the "Cavern" model in a special 50th anniversary edition! Don't know what the price on this will be or how many will be produced, but if it's the same quality as my '61 reissue it should well be worth it! Here's what she looks like!!!

50 is the production total Jeff.
#1 was at the NAMM.
Too bad they are not recreating the old school 'Rugby' (Van Ghent) tuners like the early 'Cavern' Basses have.

Thanks Greg! Yes, I agree on the tuners and on the finish. I own a special edition that was produced for Music Ground in the U.K. that I got back in '99. I'm quite happy with mine, but was possibly considering another. But, since they're only doing 50 I can well imagine what the price will be!

I may be selling my RI .Including a Vintage Rare set of 'Van Ghent' Rugbys on her, a reshaped neck per my 60's specs. The neck shaping performed by 'Music Group', a great luthier,Mr. Mike Lipe. He and Rob Olsen calipered the 1960 'Cavern' neck at the 3rd 5th 9th, 12th, and 14th fret), vs the baseball bat, a groovy old Selmer Case. Finish perfection also by Mr. Pat Wilkins, I'll let you know.

They should do a Hofner V68 to match the work McCartney did. The three tone sunburst, the plate to hold in the pickups and the piece of foam seen in the Revoloution video. Hey, why not market it as the Hofner Revolution. If it works for Epiphone...

W I T H in Japan, has all the parts you need to make that happen.
Not to popular a Hofner refin, same as the unwelcome colors many Hofners have.
To market it as the Hofner "Revolution" ? Dunno...it made its mark in the early Cavern days, vs that one song when it reappeared,only to be stolen soon after.
I sure dig the fact it popped up though..Foam ,64 refin and all. Sharing that stage with Lucy (LP), and the stripped Casino of JL's.
I think/hope/bet it will reappear. Another story. On the optimistic side.
Brian, if it shows up , I bet your idea would take shape in a minute.
Would Paul play it out?
I have only seen Paul play the RI Rob gave him once.

Speaking of a nice Refin repro..check out (1964s)Gary Grimes bass.

I'm not a bass player, but I'm so happy with a '62 RI Hofner that I bought from a Forum member, that I'm thinking of buying more Hofners. It's rare to find new instruments built exactly like the originals. I suppose that's why I keep buying new Rickenbacker reissues as well!

Thanks Greg. I doubt it will show up. Of course I guess the statute of limitations has expired, but if someone did try to sell it, rest assured Sir Paul would litigate it back into his hands. Which wouldn't be a bad thing. I mention Revolution only because of when it was last seen.

Randy, I love my reissue as well.

The Hofner site mentions the anniversary bass as having rugby ball tuners. Did they get some of these made for the special run?
