Yikes! Hagstrom meets Burns in a Sci-Fi B movie.

I kind of like it.

This same guitar turned up on the Bay around Thanksgiving, I recall. Looks like it met an Erector set somewhere along the way.

It's a very clumsy design solution--to use the idea of offset tuners like a Rick 12, but to put them on an extended headstock. I believe the wood of the headstock--it's very long and narrow--is too weak to handle the string tension.

Not to mention the shame of being so butt-ugly.

Odd thing about MVP (Well, the LATEST odd thing...) is that after he posted on gretschpages.com, a couple of weeks ago, with pictures of his '55 Cadillac Biarritz convertible, he put his entire Gretsch collection up for sale on eBay for $20K in ONE auction.

He has not posted on gretschpages.com since.

I suppose he now can be found on junkcadillac.org these days...

That's a good thing isn't it? I just hope he stays on the Cadillac site and does not take an interest in Rics.

Butt ugly it is - or is it the Guitar In The Iron Mask? Looks to me like they completely f****d up the headstock in the design and construction, and then decided to cover up the horrors with a cheese grater. And then they stuffed that as well.. just goes to show - leave it to the Ric professionals.

A guitarist friend of mine has a six string version of this guitar. We'd never seen another like it until now. The six headstock is shorter but the same basic shape. We describe these sorts of things as boat axes. Guitars to take fishing...

Does that ugly thing violate Rickenbacker's patent?

I think it violates all manner of taste and decorum, but doesn't seem to be stepping on any Santa Ana toes...
