Well...throwing the guitar (or whatever) when you're done soloing is quite popular amongst the present generation of African American instrumentalists/frontmen...I saw a Fishbone show where the Singer/Saxophonist threw his sax high into the air behind him each time he finished a solo...at different points in the show this meant different models, from a soprano to a baritone. Each sax, it was clear from where I sat, was a custom platinum job with all kinds of scroll-y engraving; I'm talking about TOP DOLLAR, like, lots more than the priciest Rick. The entire point, besides any big action on the stage having entertainment value, was to prove how good the horn roadie was...and he never dropped one. Like James Brown before them, these guys like to prove they run a tight ship. (And you shoulda seen the Fishbone guy's wick-wack stuff on the Theremin!)

But as far as completing passes to roadies, they all took it off Ian Anderson.

I have always liked Prince. He is one hell of a showman, but here is the caveat. When you are on stage with a whole bunch of big name artists it's best to try not to be obvious about stealing the show. That can backfire on you.

Dane you are 100% right. I'll bet if his roadie missed that catch he would be catching the next Greyhound back to obscurity USA.

What astounded me about the Prince video was the caption underneath-George Harrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004?? Admittedly I don't know anything about how a person is inducted into this hall but wouldn't George Harrison be kind of a no brainer? I mean, I'm surprised he wasn't in it well before that. When did the hall open? I would've thought that the Beatles (or at last 3 of them) would've been one of the the first orders of business.

Look at the video again. Dhani was enjoying it as it happened. Immensely. Prince is a showman. You don't invite him to put him in the background now, do you? I thought that it showed respect on his part. A kick *** rendition.

Prince kicked ***. this wasn't some tribute band rendition - this was the RNRHOF and he wept on the solo as the title calls for. That guy can play. If you've ever seen him live, you know he DEFINITELY was not overplaying, with his chops.

Awesome and peace to John and George. I hope they're hanging around jamming on Sweet Little Sixteen.

I agree with your observations actually John.

Look at the face of Tom Petty. That pretty much says it all. He enjoyed every second as well.

I enjoyed that video. I have watched it three times now

I've seen Prince live a couple of times now. Hory cow, has that guy become a lead player. I think he's playing some POS no-name guitar (probably a custom with a cheapo-label.) After SNL and that video, I think I gotta go out to the car to get my copy of 'Musicology.' A disc and concert meant to remind us it's about playing live.
