...and more 4005 questions.
I'm trying to acquire a bridge cover for a 4005 bass. I posted a thread on the Wanted section.
What I'm curious about is if the current bridge cover that is available on the Rick site, "Sku: 00826" will fit on the 4005 bridge. I know it's for the 6-string guitar bridge but I'm curious as to how close they are in dimensions and would it fit.
Also, what is the recommend string gauge for the bass without bowing the neck. My previous 4005 had Pyramids heavy gauge and that just didn't do the trick. Sound nice but too thumpy. Roundwound chromes sound like they might work. Medium gauge. Are the DR Black coated strings any good?

I believe the cover is the same, except that the 4005 one had a foam mute under it.
Any light tension strings should work fine. I use a custom light set of D'Addario Chromes in 40-55-75-95, I take their Super Soft set and replace the .060 D string with a single .055, making the strings have a better, more balanced feel to them. I may try a set of TI Jazz Rounds the next time I change strings.

I recommend the TI Jazz flats for your 4005. They sound, feel and play beautifully on those basses....the D'Addario supersoft chrome flats are good too...but the TI's have very low tension.....perfect for the slim, slim neck on your 4005 prize.

"Yeeess, that bridge cover will fit the 4005's bridge."
"I believe the cover is the same, except that the 4005 one had a foam mute under it. "
In my experience they aren't the same:
Right: 4005 cover; Left:Sku: 00826
Right: 4005 cover; Left:Sku: 00826
Note they aren't the same height.
Top: 4005 cover; Bottom:Sku: 00826
Note they aren't the same width.
Top: 4005 cover; Bottom:Sku: 00826
I tried putting the Sku: 00826 on the 4005 bridge and it just doesn't fit - it wont clear the string adjustment saddles. I tried 3 different 00826's on two different 4005's... Same story.
Have you guys had success putting the 00826 on the 4005? Did you bend it? I'm curious...
