RE: Prince - While My Guitar Gently Weeps. I’ve heard him do this before. I have to admit, I was impressed. Much better guitar player than I would have imagined.
Is he flashy? Yeah. Was Hendrix flashy? Was Jerry Lee Lewis flashy? Little Richard? Dolly Parton? Well, hey, ya know, that’s what you get with those folks.
Would Clapton have done it like that? No, of course not.
Speaking of George and Clapton, did you see Eric play that Indian piece on the Concert for George? (Written by Shankar’s daughter perhaps?) Pretty amazing stuff.
As far as when people are inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame . . .
The Hall is in a no-win situation. Obviously everyone who were around before the Hall existed should be inducted immediately. But the Airplane had to wait. Clapton had to wait. Paul Simon had to wait. The Beach Boys. Otis Redding. Etc.
Otherwise, when the Hall opened in ’86 they would have inducted EVERYBODY and would then have had nothing to do any year after that.
Here, by the way is the initial list from 1986:
PERFORMERS
Chuck Berry
James Brown
Ray Charles
Sam Cooke
Fats Domino
The Everly Brothers
Buddy Holly
Jerry Lee Lewis
Elvis Presley
Little Richard
EARLY INFLUENCES
Robert Johnson
Jimmie Rodgers
Jimmy Yancey
LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT
John Hammond
NON-PERFORMERS
Alan Freed
Sam Phillips

For those of you who have not seen this DVD it is well worth the price.
Paul Carrack does an excellent version "While My Guitar Gently Weeps".
The DVD gets poor reviews on Amazon, but I would have to say there is not one bad performance on the whole DVD except for the massive group jam at the ending. I never cared much for those anyway.
The performance from Gary Moore in itself is worth the price.
Performances from Hank Marvin, and Albert Lee are both outstanding, and David Gilmore well, what can be negative to say about Dave?
For the Macca fans, Wix plays keyboards during the entire show.
Excellent DVD !!!

I still have the problem of Prince at George's induction, because HE REFUSED to even speak with Dhani Harrison. Dhani was clearly in awe when Prince came out, and gave him all the space he wanted. Prince should be on his knees everyday, thanking God for the INCREDIBLE talent that he was given, and does indeed posses (Writing, playing, arranging, etc) When I saw the backstage footage of Dhani trying to thank Prince, he was met by his 300 pound bodyguard with his arms folded, giving the impression that said "Your not good enough to talk my boy, kid". The absolute height of arrogance. Dhani said, "I just want to thank him". The bodyguard said, "Don't even go near him kid" Kid? If it wasn't for Dhani's Dad and his three buddies, there would be no Prince. I don't care how good you are, the minute, the second that you think your good...It's over. Done. I'd much rather have a nice person in my band that was slightly deficient, than deal with the alternative; it's Hell. I keep seeing the word "Hot" describe his solo; what happened to descriptions like "Very fine", or "Excellent" I think the guy is a snot. Thanks, Christian

Damn good point Alan; there is a lot of music by artists that I like, but don't care for or respect as peoplee, and there also artists that I don't care for their music, but have tremendous respect for them as musicians or people. A good example is the band Toto; NEVER LIKED 'EM. But those guys were AMAZING players & singers. I can't say that I really respect ? & The Mysterians, but I still love "96 Tears"!!! Thanks, Christian

Here's my 2nd post on this topic- Seems to me Prince is not what you'd call a 'team player', which is fine from a spectator's point of view, but I'll bet more than one of the guys onstage thought, 'What a *****'. That attitude is completely opposite of what George was all about- modesty and good taste. I'll be stifling a giggle the day Prince's karma evens the score.

Screw Prince. You heard me, Screw Prince. WATCH THIS. I DEMAND it. http://videosift.com/story.php?id=79 NO arrogance, NO throwing the guitar in the crowd during the induction of the world's most influential guitarist in the history of rock, NO BS at all. Loverboy & Georgia Satellites that! Thanks, Christian
