It has to be the new model with the walnut wings and bypass thing.
I have been watching this site for months, and they just became available today.
Apparently they haven't updated their pictures.
Buy it before someone else does.

it might have the walnut wings ... the picture that they are using is a mid 90s 4003 ... notice the shorter headstock ... several of the online dealers use old pictures from the 90s ...

What production date are the new 4003 basses with the new bypass thing. Is it starting with the 2005 models?

I kinda went through this with another on line 4003. After a number of calls to Rickenbacker, I believe any 4003 built after mid December of 2005, will have the new tone selector switch.

At this point it's difficult to determine the build dates of 4003's on line. The big stores are unable to provide birthdays, as the basses are usually separated from salespeople and stored in remote warehouse locations.
I'm just happy to be here.

Can't blame them. Even the RIC corporate website has old pics of the 4003 bass. Notice the pickguard shape and the knobs layout.

I would say any instrument that one of the big online dealers is selling has a good chance of having the walnut wings and the vintage tone selector ... unless they have an instrument that has been sitting in their inventory for 3 months or more ...

The walnut wing 4003 basses went into production in the fall of 05, so its possible.

Also notice the nasty dinky headstock.

My 4003FG was made in late August 2005. It has walnut wings but no tone switch. JH said the tone switch started being installed in the 4003's in early December 2005.
