speaking of 4-2-5 basses ... here's some pics of Charly's new 4003 4-2-5 fireglo ... with a pickguardian surround ...

If anybody wants to use the pickguardian pickup surround then you should install a washer between the pickup and the plastic base that is is mounted to ... otherwise you won't be able to raise your pickup to a close height that is required for a growlly sound ...

by the way ... the neck on that bass is so strong that both rods are finger tight ... and it has 5 strings ...

That is so cool! And my feeling about the location of the tuning keys is: They are all over the place anyway. We have upside down headstocks. MM 5 string basses with one key on the bottom, etc. As long as it works, it is just another "feature"!

As the former owner of that bass, I'm glad to see Charly's 4-2-5 project came out so well.

I got to play it in it's 4-string form before entering Jeff's workshop, and it's a nice one! Would this be considered a thin neck or thick neck? I am losing my frame of reference from playing my Thunderbird so much.
Also, the fireglo looks very nice for a newer Rick. It's the wallpaper on my cell phone Image

As soon as I get my 87 4003 Jetglo is up for sale. I think you said you might be interested Steve? 800 bucks plus 25 for shipping. It was at the Socal confluence so people know about it.

I thought Charly's new 4003 was a thicker neck, especially compared to my '86.

Which makes it ideal for the 4-2-5 IMHO!
