I sometimes am willing to hang my butt out on the line and risk looking foolish if I am wrong..so I sent this guy a scathing e-mail. We'll see what happens. I made some noises about my friend and neighbor the FBI agent (which is 100% true).

It looks just like a Tokai Rockinbetter to me "dressed up" in a few Ric parts.

Since i own a 70's Ric copy (with set neck) i have researched some of the other copies out there from the 70's..this looks like one of the Tokai or Greco's from that period to me...and with the paint in the soundhole most likely an old beat up one that was refinished..

Have to agree with Paul also that it would have been easier to remake a set neck rather than try to do a workaround to make a bolt-on fit, so his story sounds pretty fishy...the bids so far reflect that tho i think (just over $300)

Now, don't shoot me, i am saving up my nickles for a REAL Ric.... i would never try to pass this copy off as real...matter of fact i have removed the real TRC that came on it but i am keeping the real toasters, trapeze etc..

The auction has ended. I think he took my e-mail to heart. I told him I would bid, be sure to win, get it, and disassemble it with my friend and next door neighbor from the FBI, exposing him to charges of Federal mail fraud and copyright infringement. I got back a fairly terse reply including the F word but mission accomplished.

I meant it too. I don;t have nearly as much of a problem with the fact that it's a copy, as I do with the attempt to pass it off as real with a complete BS story. Very predatory.

This a part of what make this forum so great..nobody has to get ripped off. If they are uncertain about a Ric for sale or if as in this case a misrepresentation. There are plenty of well learned folks here who'll jump right in, Safety in a multitude of counsellors.

Oh, hey, look. Here's a Rickenbacker case for sale, so much like the one in the other auction:

And-m hey! How about that! The seller is also from Coventry, Rhode Island! What a coincidence. Whoda thunk it?

Looks like oleeva21 and goaliedad31 are the same dude. Only he decided to use oleeva21 to hawk such wares as bogus Rickenbackers and bootleg Stones DVDs and keep his "real" account and its 410 feedback rating out of the muck. Very crafty.

Yup. Same case that boat oar was in. Different seller. Same town. Same all caps typeface.

LOL view his other auctions. I guess he decided that his labor of love was not worth keeping together. His master craftsman friend did all that neck work for nothing and so did the airbrusher.
