Arctic Monkee's vid

Post by octagon »

This is the band that NME says is the most important group since....Oasis...no...Blur...or was it the Stone Roses,I forget.According to the Washington Post "NME magazine recently declared the Monkeys' debut, "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not," the fifth-greatest British album ever . According to this heretical new NME math, the Monkeys are greater than the Beatles" but anyway I thought I would post the vid here for anyone interested in "The Next Big Thing".

I don't have the sound hooked up, but visually, they all strum in unison nicely...

The Stone Roses were important influences on a generation. John Squire is an amazing guitarist.

Jam - Smiffs - Roses - some would say Oasis (ugh) - and nothing since

I noticed that. If they had all Ricks, there'd be a broohaha by someone. All fenders goes barely noticed.

I've heard them. Their video is always on TV. Personally I think they suck. It's not all that good. They seem like the typical teenage garage band to me. The video they show is them live too, not all that impressing.

I think they have a deal with Fender. Most bands seem like they do.

Not all that great & we've heard it all before, New Wave anyone?

But they are a young band, give 'em a chance & any young lads playing guitars has got to be rated, better than that Rap or DJ type rubbish!

Agreed! There may be a new flavor every month out of Great Britain, but at least they are guitar playing rock or pop bands. What's up with the U.S.? Rap and hip hop have been hogging the charts here for decades!

I feel a bit like Simon Cowell might on this one. If I heard that on my radio I would switch channels. It's that bad.

Comparisons to anyone else no matter who, at this stage are pointless pipe dreams by NME. I can perhaps envision a bit of over the top spin doctoring going on in the background by their publicist as well.

When they mature as musicians, I would give them another listen. I don't think though that they will ever wow us with their vocal abilities. I could be wrong but...

Well if rushed power chords, rudimentary rhythms, shouted vocals and minimal talent are your thing...have at it.

They certainly cannot compare themselves, or be compared by others who know anything about music at all, to Oasis or the Beatles.
