The Who - Purple Hearts And Power Chords
Just yesterday I bought a DVD-R 'Purple Hearts And Power Chords' that compiles approximately 4 hours of early Who video. Every imaginable television performance is included on this double disc set. The first disc starts with 'Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere' on Ready Steady Go (1965) and ends with outtakes from Monterey Pop (1967). The second disc starts with 'Substitute' on Finnish TV (1967) and ends with 'Pinball Wizard' on This Is Tom Jones (1969). Great quality and highly recommended.
Chris: I got it from www.groove-entertainment.net . My friend owns the business. Lots of great CD's, DVD's, and also rare vinyl. I've been a loyal customer for over twenty years. I have lots of early Who video, but this beats them all. Lots of Ricks!
Mark: I'm not sure if the shop lists DVD-R's on their website. They are local for me, so I shop there every week. The owner knows what I like and gets me lots of rare British beat and psych music. He stocks lots of Beatles, Kinks, Who, Stones, etc. Also lots of tasteful new wave stuff (Costello, Jam, XTC, Smiths, etc). If you email them, I'm sure they send you a list of titles. This isn't an official release, so I hesitated to mention it here. It's a collection of TV appearances and promo clips. Although I prefer official releases, I figure this is the only way I'll ever get to see these performances from the 1960's. I'd happily pay the band and their record company to see this stuff, but I don't expect it will ever get an official release. I approach material such as this as a music historian.
