After I refinished my Duo-Jet 120th Anniversary project, which has a Bamboo Yellow front and a Copper mist back, I learned a good deal about the shade of copper that looks good on a guitar. Gretsch's Copper Mist is WAY too pink, almost like a heather pink/purple. I matched it, then modded it with a good deal of transparent red oxide into a copper hue with an orange cast that is gorgeous. This would be my choice to do a Rickenbacker.
That was a year ago this month, BTW, so orange in its various incarnations is not a sudden obsession.

Last night I had a dream about picking up a brand new 4003VP AFG (yes, I'm a chronic-RAS sufferer). If I were you, I'd order one and hold out for the AFG. Get the one you really want. A staple of being a Rick lover is the willingness to wait, imho.
MB is my favourite finish (I have a 4003VP and a 350v63 in MB) and it looks awesome on the 381v69 - see Paul W's. AFG I think would be equally swell.
Dan, the pic of the Gretsch (above)shows the guitar's back and pickguard in the copper orange color I love. Of course, the Tangerineglo burst is a transparent finish; entirely different.
Dane's bass pic is the copper that I don't like. I think it looks weak and Rick basses are anything but weak...

That's the copper off the Autocad materials list...I s'pose I could try tweaking it a bit if I have some time, we'll see...
Yeah, Rick basses are anything but weak...but they're not the strongest available when it comes to temperature extremes...that's why, after looking at tomorrow's weather forecast, I'll be using my P-bass to play on the last float of the Denver St. Pat's Day parade...our second annual appearance. This year, we've decided to play...(wait for it...): NOTHING BUT POGUES!!!!!

They're all good tunes, but I'm especially looking forward to hitting the folks in the reviewing stand with our rendition of "Dirty Old Town"...
Ah, the Smokin' of the Green...sure, 'tis a wonderful t'ing. May the cops be at the donut shop when you pass by, and may you be safely home a half hour before your dealer knows you're gone.
As I said in my original post on this (above in this thread), I'm about to start one in a week or two. I'll post pictures of it.

Sounds like a solid color? Pearl orange would also look terrific on some Rickenbackers...
