Pretty good lip and riff sync. Turner starts with fingers and ends with a pick...go figure.

I never thought I'd say this but hearing Wishbone Ash and seeing Martin Turner on a RIC looks all wrong. I fancy his T Bird had a bit more growl as well.

Very nice bass though. What happened to it?

I noticed him doing the Chuck Berry chugga-chugga way up the neck during some of the dual lead/trading licks parts. I'm not sure a Tbird would sound as good for that.

I posted on this last year. The DVD "Wishbone Ash - Phoenix Rising" has this on and an excellent "Vas Dis" taken from the same BBC tapes from 1971. Superb DVD if you like WA. We toured with them once, a great band!

Ahhhh, well that blows my theory that the TBird sounded a bit more growly!!!!

It's just that i grew up with photos of WA on my bedroom wall with the Tbird. In fact the reason that I got a RIC in '74 was that there was no way I could afford the Gibbo. The '74 4001 wasn't such a bad compromise though...!

Great video - Old Grey Whistle Test, if I'm not mistaken?

The first 'real' concert I ever saw was Wishbone Ash in 1970 or 1971, in Nottingham (IIRC). A band called Red Dirt opened, then WA, and Mott the Hoople was the headliner. Handy and Phoenix, to this day, remain among my all time favourites.

I have no recollection of what Martin Turner was playing then - I've always associated him with the TBird, primarily because that's what he's pictured playing on the inside of the cover of Argus.
