Yeah if no one else has had this problem I must be doing something wrong. I got it from pick of the rick so I am pretty sure it is a geniune part. But yeah I am pretty sure I was following the diagram. I need to repaint it before I try again. I was told minimum $150 to powdercoat anything. I don't want to spend that much. Anyone know where I can maybe get it done cheaper?
I have done my own powder coating. It is not too hard but by the time you get an entry level kit, not to mention the use of an oven, you will be in that price range. I am not sure about basses but the guitar tuners on my former 610 did not appear to be powder coated. I believe they had a process called Melonite™. Most refer to it as black chrome. Here is what I found on it:
Melonite™ Processing
Uses molten salt to defuse nitrogen into steel in order to provide resistance to corrosion, wear and harden (55 Rockwell "C") the surface. This provides a beautiful jet black appearance to steel parts.
