Alembic or other exotic basses
Moderator: jingle_jangle
Marc - this is pretty much what happens in general. The basses are not collectible at the moment. Future? Who knows. You have to really like them and intend to keep 'em and not care what happens on ebay. A decent constituency of players have them and have this sentiment. I feel this way about mine. For the one I have - I already have figured the "out" if I ever had to. Coming from the collectible world, I usually formulate this automatically. If you were thinking of trying one for a few months, then trying to sell/trade it - I wouldn't reccomend it.
Leprosy is rare & scarce but nobody wants that!

Hi Marc, bless you! Rare to see such candor.
I would think, even if she is not your cup of tea, she is a rare and special piece.
FWIW, I haw entered the Alembic world and I would suggest you approach with caution. It can be as addictive as M&M's, but a little more expensive. Aside from the unbelievable craftsmanship, and a unique and wonderful tone, you will find the factory a stark contrast from most builders. They are fanatical about customer service. I've never bought new, yet every time I call I'm treated like a long lost relative. They will do follow up, make suggestions, talk about your recent purchase of a old used beater as though it were a rare lost artifact. They return calls and emails. It's not uncommon for one of the owners to answer the phone and chat about your old bass as if they just sold it to you. Lovely people out there, primarily a family operation.
You have been warned! Go to their web site and hit the Alembic Club. You will see and feel how the factory looks after the herd.

Almost took the Alembic plunge recently. Still looking to by a custom powered pickup beauty. Fell in love with the Ritter Roya's but at $6000+ out-a my league. I have that fantastic custom built Hamer 8 string up for sale on the bay. Never thought I would ever sell that one. I had it made for me....??? Ohh well... I need to buy a bunch of equipment and something has to go. I am using my 4003 5 string and a Fender Aerodyne as my basses of choice now. Had considered working out the Chapman stick. but Some wonderful Acoustic guitar or new keyboard for the PK5 pedals keeps coming up. I'll fall into an Alembic someday... when the time is right...
