My gear... who needs GAS?

Post by throw_this_away »

I love to talk about my gear... so I figured I would post some pictures since I borrowed a digital camera.

My 96' 4003 with the ultra thin neck, My 72' 4001 with all the trimmings of the era, My Traynor YBA200 all tube amp with matching cab and my first bass, a 96' MIM fender jazz with some hotrodded mods.

Nice setup, John - All's a bassists needs... a Ric, (or two), a Fender and a decent-enough rig!

Great pics! Keep hold of your '72... I should have with mine.

You do realise this will turn into a sixty-six page-long thread of gear posts?

I'm currently using my father's old setup, he eventually went Ampeg like every other sod on the planet, so I stole his old gear!

Works really well - Ashdowns are tremendous cabs, (the English-made ones.) The head at the moment is a 550-watt Hartke, amazingly bright half-tube half-transistor amplifier - makes for an incredibly twangy sound, perfect for Rics.

Ignore my dad's old 1976 Precision!

And, well - I think you already know what's my #1 these days...

Beautiful. Your '72 4001 looks exactly like my August '70 21 fretter, John. As for your '96 4003, I wish I could find one just like that - as from 1997, 4003 basses have sported a slightly re-shaped pickguard and a not-so-slightly modified headstock, which detracts from an otherwise perfect instrument IMO. The J-Bass is cool. It would look cooler with neck block markers though.
A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

I'll ignore that that P bass is backwards, Henny! That's a nice looker! Image

Hey John, your Traynor looks completely different than mine. Did your cab come with the dolleys?

So true . . . but add in a Pedulla, and an Alembic, and a Spector, and a Steinberger, and a Wal, and another Fender, and a couple more Rics . . . hehehehehehe!

Thanks Guys.

Kevin: I got replacement straplocks from ric but the one on the top horn would not come out (I think is was banged and twisted) so I have a strap lock on the bottom (where I need it) and since then it has never fallen (I had a few close calls in the past with the bottom).

"Keep hold of your '72... I should have with mine"
You couldn't pry it out of my cold dead hands.

"As for your '96 4003, I wish I could find one just like that"
I got lucky and got it used from a local guy at a good price.

"The J-Bass is cool. It would look cooler with neck block markers though."
I was thinking the same thing... and almost got a replacement 70's style neck, but I figure I will just save for a 75' reissue jazz (I was supposed to get one last year... but I ran into my first ric first)

Bob, I added the casters to the traynor... smartest thing I did since buying the amp. I also added the piping as I like the the classy look of it.

forgot one picture... for 34 years old it is doing pretty well... but it has a few bumps and scars.

Guys, not to hijack this thread but...

I currently have the Yorkville XS400...I think I REALLY want the YBA 200. Either sell me on it or save my *** from my wife.

You know what I'm talking about.....

Read the reviews on harmony central. Most there seem to love them except for one angry SVT guy that resents everyone drawing a comparison between the two.

I love the trashy little thing . Short scale , lightweight , sounds great , featherweight.

It is a lot of fun to play.
