4001 CS Certificate and 4001v63 Sea Green

Post by tsarter »

Hi,

Nice to meet you all! I'm in need of some distraction from reality right now, so I thought it time to come out of lurk mode as I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer.

I have a 4001 Chris Squire signature bass arriving tomorrow. It is a player, some dings, etc, and it does not have its COA. If I give the serial numbers to Rickenbacker is it possible to have another one reissued? I tend to doubt it, but then again it does not hurt to ask.

As a way of introducing myself, here's a link to pics of my sea green 4001v63 reissue:

Take care,

Hey Tim...

Don't take this the wrong way... it's just the way my mind works... but why didn't you take the user name "Tsarter Toss"?

Seafood on my mind...

Peace, Love, Rics, Out

My first bass was a Rickenbacker...
My best bass is a Rickenbacker...
My last bass may very well be a Rickenbacker

Tim - nice Sea Green v63 there, of course I've seen it before (listed on you-know-where, and we've traded e-mails before, I'm the guy who owns the Sea Green 4003), I'm glad that you found a way to keep that baby, it's a classic!

Yes, I've so far managed to hand onto it. Still selling of gear though... I assume you still have your 4003? One was up recently - went for around $1500 I believe.

Yeah, I still have the Sea Green 4003. Like I told you in an earlier e-mail, I'd cart that thing in a shopping cart before I sold it. I'm gigging pretty regular with it, it's my main axe.

That's right! I remember you saying that, Mike. Hopefully it will never come to that for you.

My 4001 Chris Squire arrived yesterday. It's very nice. I can really only afford to keep one - it or my Sea Green. Tough choice. I love them both. There are some others I could sell instead I suppose, but two nearly identical Rics seem a bit excessive.

I guess no one knows about obtaining a new certificate of authenticity?

I'm pretty sure getting a new certificate isn't possible, at least from what I've read on the net. Like the nameplates, the certificates aren't reissued to deter counterfeiting, which makes sense.

I would think the green one is the rarer of the two, but I would hate to part with either myself.

Tim, if you put that v63 up again, I'll be sorely tempted. As if I need another bass!

You'd have to outbid myself and quite a few others first!

Hmmm...well, neither of us bid enough and then Tim decided to keep it. We'd better plan on opening our checkbooks a little wider this time. ;^)

I don't think I bid last time as I had my eye on a 60's 4001 that I finally bought, but now that I'm stuck in Egypt I've been able to put a little back for such purchases!

That's exactly what happened Dave. I was prepared to sell it, but when reserve was not met I got fickle and held onto it. I have a hard time letting go of basses. I'm sure you understand...

Or when you sell something like a Blackstar and then kick yourself afterwards...
