Introduction

Post by bksmithey »

Hi, been lurking off and on for a little while, finally finding time to properly introduce myself ...

Bought my first (and until recently, only) Rickenbacker in 1981, a used '78 4001 MG, inspired by Geddy (of course) and Bruce Foxton; it was only later that I discovered that Beatle Paul had played one as well. Jammed on it with some friends for a short time, but college, and then family, came along, and the Rick spent many years resting in its case.

My kids all started taking music lessons several years back (violin, viola, and piano), and I was inspired to learn to play. I tracked down a teacher, got the bass back out, and I've been having a blast. My wife plays guitar, and the kids are now on guitar, trombone (school band), and piano, so I can usually find somebody to make some music with me.

The new toy is a '87 610 in yellowed-white, in what I'll describe as "player" condition; it was a working band guitar, and cosmetically it has seen better days. Ran across what I thought was a deal that was too good to pass up. My wife has played around on it a bit, it sounds great, now I'm thinking that I might try to learn a few chords on the 6-string.

I'll try to get out the camera soon and get a few pics posted of both the 4001 and the 610.

Welcome Brian,

It seems that pics are almost mandatory around here. Good to have you aboard. There are lots of great people here. The forum is usually pretty lively. So enjoy!

Thanks all for the very warm welcome! Howard, we'll see what if anything I'm getting started here -- at the current pace of one new Rickenbacker every 25 years I'll end up with just enough to leave one to each of my kids! :-)

I just tried a couple of quick snaps with the camera, but I'm not happy with the results. The flash shots all have bad reflections, and there's not enough light to go without a flash. From the pictures I've seen on the forum, some of you are very talented photographers. I'll try soon to get some shots under natural light and see if those are worth posting.

Ok, time for me to practice!

It took me 40 years for my first, Brian. Then I went berserk - another 9 in 12 months. It's a disease for which there are few cures, Brian - be careful!! Image

Some of us are not talented photographers & learn as much about that here as we do about Ricks.
Check out some of the shots in the Reflections section for insight. Lots of good stuff there.
