Is hope this is a correct one...

The problem could be the depth of the control cavity..or lack of. I had a hard time finding a shallow switch to use for this mod a while back when we discussed it.

I ordered the pot and caps from Ric last night. They said maybe 3 weeks for delivery, but hopefully sooner. How are they usually with parts order delivery?

I was looking at this schematic from the Ric site, that I assume is valid for all Rics through 2005 (they do not have a schematic posted with the VTC option yet):

http://www.rickenbacker.com/pdfs/19507.pdf

So we see the RC circuit for the treble tone control. By adding the 2nd cap to this circuit, we'll have the .047FD (C2 in the schematic) and .0047MFD caps in series, right? That's the mod that you guys would make without the new pot? Then we add the pot to bypass this new cap or not?

Can't wait to try it out!

Mine came a few days late, but it was over the Christmas holidays, so yours should be on time or earlier.
Everything was bagged neatly & packed well.

At one time John Hall stated that the pot/switch that RIC was using was not an off the shelf item. It was designed to have better durability. Remember you can order from any dealer worldwide now.

You would wire the cap as the signal path between the selector switch and the volume pot of the treble pickup (series circuit). The switch should short the cap leads.

Ken, are you talking about adding back in the C3 cap in that Ric schematic? That's the one that they had originally in the 4003, then as it says in the schematic they shunted that cap in later models?

Yes C3. The switch only needs to be a SPST on/off switch. When off (open) the signal would go through the cap passing only high frequencies. When on (closed) it would short out the cap letting all frequencies pass.
This is opposite of the way a tone circuit works. In a tone circuit the cap goes to ground, thus passing the high frequencies to ground.

I ordered (and just received in the mail) the pot that Ric is selling now on their site (part number 07345). It looks exactly like this...

http://www.fake58.co.uk/images/EP_0286-000%20push%20pull.jpg

...except the part where the knob gets pushed on is totally round and smooth. It seems pretty deep, but I called Ric's customer service to ask about it, and the guy thought it would be the same as what they're putting in the new 4003 (though he didn't realize that they were selling them to the public).

Is there anybody with a new 4003 that could verify that the knob itself has no "flat spot", and that if you take the knob off, what the knob connects to on the pot is round and smooth like this one that I got?

I am at work right now, so I can't take the knob off of mine to see of it has a flat spot where it fits to the pot.

Thanks!

So you guys are talking about the thing they are putting on the new rics?
How hard is it to add on there? Sounds pretty kool.

This maybe a little off topic.... But is this the same mod that you guys were putting on the 4004s? I cant remember what that was. I was just wondering.

I got mine from Ric today. But then, I'm only 75 miles up the road! and yes it is the thing they are putting on new Ricks.

Here is a crude drawing but it gets the point across:
