McCartney bass

Post by jwr2 »

Here's a 4001 that correctly puts a high gain bridge pickup for a McCartney 4001 wings bass.

The one that Rickenbacker sells has the horseshoe pickup ... but in the '70's McCartney's bass had a high gain ... added later by somebody ...

Jeff, AFAIK the 4001C64S has the style of horseshoe pickup in it due to Paul's bass having one in it at present, in it's current configuration.

Rickenbacker did the work on McCartney's bass in the 70's, and Mark the MD was one of the guys who assisted on the project. I believe the under-string pickup they used was a special-wound unit, unique to any other bass at the time.....
