Hi Guys- IF, and I say IF you play "Rain" open G, this is what I came up with for the chorus that I promised awhile back. Seems to have the right "Bluegrass/Raga" sound. Thanks! Christian Image

I just ran across this video of the song, interesting in and of itself, but listen to the comment from John at the very end...

as far as I know they played the guitars pretty fast (say in A# )and then slowed it down (to G).
Just to achieve this special sound.

That was taken from the Anthology.

I have read in many sourced that they played "guitars". Is it me, or do I only hear one?

Wolf, any hints on where you might be able to hear John?

While we're on Rain...The Beatles "Bible"(Known for it's errors) doesn't TAB the bass for the second "Raaaiiinnn-Shiiiiiine" part...Am I correct in that it's played like this???

G--12--------
D-----12-----
A---------10-
E------------

Also, does anyone else get tied up when the timing goes to 2/4? Man, I have a hard time with that!

Brian,
I think there are two guitars, Harrison playing this little melody, fiddling with C B C D C B and so on and on, with his guitar a bit distorted, and Lennon strumming the rest, pouring the G and C and D chords. But, again, it was played about 20% faster, and therefore 3 or 4 halftones higher.

Hi all,

At the big break with the drums, Bass, etc...(2:31-2:28), I hear pretty much a guitar that sounds like the Baritone bass they used. It's also present, although very hard to hear in the beginning. You hear the tone, but no bass loudness or present.

It's playing the low notes and I think 5ths of the key. It's cool because you hear the low notes and then the high notes of the distorted guitar following.

My .02: I think the song was recorded in key of A (open chord, nut position), and faster...then slowed down a whole step to G and vocals added...makes sense to me condsidering the kind of chording they were doing and picking....It works in Amaj quite nicely.

This was a great time for John. I thought his stuff on Revolver was some of the best work The Beatles did. Rain was around the same time.
