Dig!
Holy moly. I saw Dig! last night. It's a documentary that follows the Dandy Warhols and the Brian Jonestown Massacre for seven years and shows the similarities and differences between the two bands. The 'artists' are extremely shallow, obnoxious people, but the guys in BJM were using some 360's (or maybe 360/12's) as well as some Vox 12 strings a la Petty. Just thought that was worth mentioning. Did anyone else see the movie?

Fantastic movie, although it certainly reflects poorly on both bands! Did BJM actually use Rics? The one time I saw them, they had something like a half-dozen electric 12-strings, all cheap ****** models (Kapas or Voxes or Danos or cheaper). They had a roadie who spent the entire show re-tuning the 12-strings. I thought that they did a good job of re-creating the *sound* of the late 60s, but they didn't have any songs that came close to the quality of the songs by the bands they were clearly paying homage to.
My basses are Rickenbackers. My synthesizers and recording gear are analog.
Upon multiple viewings, I have noticed the BJM doesn't really use Rics in the movie... but Courtney Taylor (from the Dandy Warhols) uses a 360 FG while sitting in with them. Yeah, I don't think those guys can afford Rics! But they do have a ton of Gretsches it seems... and in the Dandy Warhols' commentary they wonder aloud how the BJM can afford their guitars.
