I've heard that version before...But never with a video. Disturbing, yet funny.

You know Shatner was thinking "I'm so groovy".

Shatner is the hippest 80-year-old on The West Side...he was too smart not to be doing tongue-in-cheek on that take IMO.

I like Shatner's acting though, in much the same way that I liked John Wayne's acting. They are both very predictable character actors but at the same time, very entertaining.

So yeah he's hip and he's cool in his own way.

I agree with you Paul and Brian, it seems that's his sense of humour. When I was down in Myrtle Beach a couple of weeks ago, a commercial kept coming on for some TV channel special coming up (an oldies TV station-TVLand or something like that? The Yanks should be able to help me with this one). The commercial had a snippet of William Shatner doing some kind of live "talking" song. He was saying (to the music) "Are you calling me, are you calling me...has been?" It was funny and I think this video is in the same vein. Again, I think it's his musical schtick.

On a somewhat related topic, it had been a long, LONG time since I saw Sanford and Son and Good Times on TV. Man, compared to the **** you get these days, those were theme songs! I was in my hotel, on a little TV and the basslines were moving me out of my seat!

"Has Been" is Shatner's most recent CD. The entire CD is genius.

He's backed by Ben Folds & guests include Joe Jackson, Brad Paisley, Henry Rollins, Aimee Mann & others.
He's seen in this video from the Leno show w/ Jackson & Folds:

Lastly, his finest performance:

We(my Beatles band)played a radio show and while we're doing the show they mention they had Shatner in the day before, we gave them much grief that they didn't have us on then so we could have played "Lucy" with him singing.

Man, Ronn, that would have been great! Somehow, I feel it's bound to happen someday...someone get Katie Couric's people on the phone!
I didn't get where I am today by being on time...
