Ok, now that I have your attention, let me tell you why I called you all here!

I swapped out my B2 and Hartke 8 ohm 4x10 for a B2RE and an Ampeg 4 ohm 4x10 Classic cab.
I'm too loud! I have the drive barely at 9:00 an the master the same. Typically, you want the drive around 12 and the master wherever it needs to be for the particular setting.

Ok, here's the question. Would I lose the Rick sound if I use the pad on the input? I could then crank the drive up higher, but I have always thought it wasn't good to pad the input unless you have active pickups. I believe Jeff R. has said that Rick pickups can be almost as hot as some actives, so???????

The best part of the new setup is I can play real easy and still get tons of punch!

And why is 450 into 4 so much louder than 200 into 8? The B2 could plug into a 4 so it can do 400 watts at least, the B2Re added 50 more watts out I believe. I know you should also address the efficiency of the speakers, but those numbers are hard to get these days.

I think a 4 ohm cabinet is more efficient and the amp works "better", less resistance. I know mine is almost twice as loud with a 2-speaker cabinet load as opposed to a single cab at the same volume setting.

I find the "pad" on the b2 to be a sound sucker ... I haven't tried the b2re ...

to get the driven and over driven sound I use my bass pod and then get a warm clean sound out of my amp by itself ... with the pod you have "your sound" at pretty much any volume ...

Try the gain a 3 or 4 and the main volume at 1 or 2 ... also back off all of the tone controls ... each tone control adds volume in a frequency range ...

the amp works twice as hard to drive 8 ohms as it does to drive 4 ohms ... 8 ohms is twice the resistance as 4 ohms ...
