I am another against the grainer. While I use wound on my 660/12 and my acoustics, all my 6 string electrics use plain G's. I have no trouble tuning or intonating and I like to bend a la David Gilmour. Arthritis in my hands has started as well, so easier is better.

Never, ever drool on your surf shirt. It wrecks the solo.

Unwound G on all my electrics, and wound on most of my acoustics. The 6string acoustics get wound, and the 12 string gets plain. My 360/12/has 9's on it so the G is plain.

It depends on what I'm playing-
Flats on all my guitars, plain G if bending a bunch.
Wound G on 12s- No exceptions there.
Never had tuning issues in any case.
Maybe I'n lucky...

Peter, may I suggest you try the Thomastik Infeld brand flatwounds. I used the Pyramids for a while and just couldn't take the tension anymore. I switched back to the RIC brand rounds and wasn't satisfied with the roundwound sound. I heard JH and others talking about the T.I's and how they are very much like the flats of the 60s. I ordered some and I've never gone back. You get the Pyramid tone with roundwound playability! I've got them on my 12. After Sergio sends my pickups back I'll put them on my 6. Best money I've ever spent for strings. I've spent LOTS of cash trying to find THE string; mission accomplished!
