I thought there were some photo's floating around of Maurice with an all white Rick somewhere, but this one is unique. Looks like the photographer was on the stage. Man, where is that bass now?
Seems that almost all the 1999s were Fireglo! Macca, Squire, Waters, Quaife, Gibb, and I'm sure there's more. Did any of the 60s 1999s ship in MG or JG or anyG?
I am the fortunate custodian of Maurice's old RM1999 bass you posted. A nice way to open your account here!
Thanks for that cool shot, that's one I have not seen before. Where did you find it?
Here's another pic, so Paul W can't tell me it's sunbathing again!
As far as I know all the RM1999 basses were Fireglo originally.
The white finish has worn away on my bass at the front of the upper horn where my chin rested for many hours during practice,
and, at the back too, where my body rested.
Andrew, I assumed they were all FG. Pics sure prove that!. Just fishing to see if any were documented in other finishes. I guess then it would have been an upcharge custom color, defeating the purpose of the scaled down intent of the 1999.
I don't think you could even get a custom colour option for the RM1999 basses Fran, unlike the guitars where you could order Jetglo I believe.
They came in FG and that was that!
I think all the RM stuff was Fireglo back then, that was the flagship colour and the Brits were glad to get it! I think it is getting hard to remember how big the world seemed then, back before we had satellite feeds for TV and the internet and all...
"This is the big one, Elizabeth, I'm coming to join ya, honey!"
Andrew,
Could you post a few shots of the back of the Gibb bass. That seems to be a nice plate attached to the back. I'm sure it is to save the finish and was that from Maurice or did you do that?
