Possessed 4004 Cii

Post by zoomduck »

The neck on my new 4004 changes about 1/2 to 1 mm ( relief ) every day . Is this normal ? I am new to Rickenbackers but have 35 + years of Bass set up and playing . None of my other Basses change like this from day to day . Seasonal changes , but not every day . Glad it has a warranty .

I received my Cii TG in February and since my initial setup it has been rock solid. My Laredo, LK and Ci have also rarely, if ever, needed any tweaking.

That is definitely not typical for any RIC model. But as you said, it has a warranty. That is the key here. If there are issues, it is best to let RIC customer service take the first shot at resolving them for you.

Show us some pics! We love to see new Ricks.

I would like to post photos but can not make them small enough for this site . I think the Bass is still showing at Pick of the Ricks . It is the 4004 Cii FG.

Just my opinion, but 1/2 to 1mm is a crisis? I don't think I could notice that if it changed even while I was playing.

One thought, could it be that there is NO tension on the rods? See if the nuts are backed off. Maybe just snugging them up a bit will stabilize the situation?

Hmmm, it does say MM. I was reading it quickly at the office this afternoon.

I can always tell if my Bass necks have moved 1mm . Maybe I've been playing too long . I can feel a change in the string height as soon as I start to play ......Anyway ....I think I found the problem . One of the truss rod nuts was always tighter than the other . I backed off both of them and just snugged them back to where they were tight . Re-tuned to pitch and ended up with just enough relief so the strings dont buzz . I'll find out tomorrow if it holds. So like Paul said one of the rods had very little tension . You Guys are great . I really appreciate this forum . Thanks .

Barry, i'd be the same as you, the tiniest difference throws me. Good luck with keeping it stable!

1mm that could be your house heating up and cooling down with a daily cycle ... a change in temp of a few degrees could increase or decrease string tension

My CII did the same thing when I got it new in '02. It has since stabalized quite well.

All things become better with age.
