Dealer problems anyone?

Post by mp_me »

Without mentioning any names has anyone had waitlist problems with Ric dealers.
I ordered a guitar from dealer "X" om Jan 23, 2005.
I called a few months ago to check up, and they confirmed 1/23/05 was my order date.

I called yesterday and was told I ordered my guitar 2/8/05, and I was 3rd in line to get this model when it arrived.
Anyone ever come across a dealer who would do something like this.

Please do not mention names, I am just curious if this happens.
I do not want to start bashing dealers.

Not me, because I deal exclusively with Mike Parks when buying new Ricks. He's the best. Though I hear that Clayton fella is no slouch either!

Mark: Before this thread goes any further, I would ask that posters make any complaints regarding the dealer to the dealership itself. I do not want to start a "he said they said" vibe.

I realize that you mentioned no names in your post but we have been down this road numerous times before and I do not want to revisit it.

Mark: You did not cause any problems and your post was a respectful one. I just want to avoid situations that have been problematic before.

I have only dealt with the two that Chris P. has mentioned above. I never had problem either.

Mark - is it possible that while you placed your order on Jan. 23, it wasn't actually ordered by the dealer until Feb. 2? This might lead to a mix up between the dates.

Not only have I never had a problem with a RIC dealer, but I have never had a problem with RIC itself. I have only had to deal with them on issues few and far between, but they have been great to deal with. On this last issue, Kenny has treated me like an old friend he has known for years, and it was the first time I have ever spoken to him. Now, about the car dealership...

It would be nice if we had some dealers here in the UK to have problems with! Image

I have dealt with a dealer who took my deposit on one day but actually placed the order with RIC on a subsequent date. This dealer eventually went by the RIC order date as opposed to my order date, so there was some confusion.

It all ended up alright though, as I am in possession of one beautiful instrument. One MORE, that is...

Interesting... I only once had a problem with a Rick dealer (independent shop). Soon after, I found out that they were no longer a dealer. I think RIC takes their dealerships very seriously, based on the numerous other encounters I've had with 7 or 8.

It's important to know that not every Rick dealer is a Rick expert. Many aren't. They just have to be honest about their knowledge and dealings and that's fine by me. My guess is that the above date changes would not likely change the delivery date by very much.

The upshot of it is, though, a week or two between you "ordering" from the dealer and the dealer "ordering" from RIC isn't going to make much difference when the overall wait is going to be something like a year or so. However, that week could be crucial if it is at the end of December when you want to get your "official order" in for the COY about to expire. And RIC takes some time off around Christmas, so don't wait until the last few days of the year. I ordered my Monte (in 2003) and my forthcoming Blueburst Cheyenne around the middle of December and just got in under the wire.

I guess next time I place an order with a dealer I will have to make sure they place the order with Rickenbacker promptly.
I'm sure many BBR's were ordered between 1/23/05 and 2/8/05.
This could add 3 to 6 months to my delivery.
Oh well...live and learn.....

I usually purchase RIC merchandise with Chris Clayton ay Pick of The Ricks, but I have also purchased from Mike Parks. I have only great things to say about both dealers.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)
