First I have to say that the Redneck is friggin sweet. This thing has not been played much at all since leaving the RIC factory in 1988. The neck has a bit of upbow probably from being stored tuned up without sufficient rod tension. There is not a mark on the thing. Even the case is clean and has all of the case candy and the unmailed warranty card. It is an 18 year old time capsule.

It is Marc's bass but we have certainly been discussing a deal. I would love to (want to) add it to the stable to complete the superfecta.

Ted, did you plug it in?

Sounds pretty good too.IMHO, it has what I would call the definitive Rickenbacker sound.

It's admittedly hard to make decisions on pieces like this when they come up for sale, but that's why I had to pick it off Ebay when I saw it. I knew someone would be kicking themselves for not bidding, or not being around at the right time.

I'm rooting for Ted to get it, but if not, there is a small but interested line of suitors for it.

Something about the treble pickup was not right so I took it apart to investigate. The previous owner may have tried a different pickup at some point and lost the RIC springs and screws. Just a guess. The adjusting screws were too small in diameter so he nutted them off under the base plate. The springs were replaced with what appears to be pen springs. They can (and do) actually pop through the surround. I am going to consult my parts box and try to find some original RIC parts so I can get it ready for the Confluence.

As for the sound. Yes, it has a wonderful voice. It sounds very much like my Blackstar - loud, deep, and full of harmonics. For those of you who have never played one, the microdot-neck basses have maple fingerboards. It is not just a different finish on a standard S model. They are actually built differently. To my ear, the tone is brighter than that of a Rick with a bubinga board. The finish is so perfect I am afraid to handle it too much!

I gave the treble pickup a new set of screws and springs so it works as should.
