I finally got my first Rickenbacker.

Today I received my first Rickenbacker through a private sale. It's a new 325V63 from 1999. And, let me tell you, I couldn't be happier. The guitar plays like a dream, and it's got all the Beatle vibe I hoped for. The short scale is not frustrating, but actually easier to play on.

And, I feel like I owe everybody on this forum a great big thank you. About a year ago, I came to this forum asking about Rickenbacker copies. As most of you know, I'm 16 (and back then I was only 15), and a Rickenbacker was far out of my price range. I thought I could settle for a Tokai or a Japanese copy. However, the good people here told me just to keep working hard and earning money, and eventually I'd have enough for a real Rick. So, over the course of one year, I've "scrimped and saved" and worked several jobs. I had a job at the supermarket, mowing lawns, various odd jobs, etc. I also sold a lot of stuff on eBay. If I had to choose the job I hated most, it would be this one time when a minimum wage high school janitor paid me twenty dollars to do his shift for him!

But, aside from all that, thank you EVERYBODY. I came extremely close to pulling the trigger and giving in, but the folks here encouraged me to keep trying and that eventually I'd have a real Rickenbacker. And, now that day has come, and I'm so glad I did...there really is NO comparison.

A fine story Nick and a good example of a topic being discussed in another thread. Good on you for your initiative. Good on you for your good taste too! I'd even venture to guess that years from now you'll still be plucking away on your Rickenbacker-probably wouldn't have been on a Tokai! Congrats.

Nick, Welcome to the club! And what a way to start!

Good on you for your hard work and determination. You'll remember this time for years and years to come.

I still recall starting my first full time job, saving my hard earned dollars and buying my first 100 watt Marshall head and cabinet. It felt so bloody good walking into the guitar shop and slapping down the cash!

I hope you have many years of pleasure playing your gorgeous 325V63.

I'm quite impressed! Beautiful guitar, too. Excellent choice on your part. I'm also impressed with the way and the effort you decided to go about it getting it, as others in this thread have told you over and over.

Congrats Nick!

I took out a high finance loan to pay for my first Ric (a 360V64 JG). I must have paid for that guitar three times over! -here's to youthful impetuousness (which I demonstrated -unlike the work ethic and perseverance you displayed).

Hope you keep the guitar around. I still have mine.
