Rickenbacker Color Comparison [with pics]

Post by grinch »

When I first got into Rickenbackers, I noticed that they came in a lot of different finishes and colors. Eventually, I began saving them to my hard drive as a color code reference, and now I'd like to share the photos. I don't know if it's every color, but it's a pretty wide comparison.

Nice pictorial Nick, just a few clarifications:

- "Teal" is officially known as Turquoise.
- There was never a "brown" finish, that 480 looks like Autumnglo to me.
- There was also a finish simply known as "Red", which appeared in the late 80's/early 90's.

Also the "god-knows-what glo" is actually a mid '60s version of Autumn-glo.

And your "yellow" is actually RIC's rendition of the color Chris Squire had painted on his old RM 1999.

Is it not officially called "cream-glo"?

Some of these were never in full-scale production:

- The "creamglo" was only ever available on the 4001CS.
- Purpleburst was a one-off for Mark Hudson.
- Greenglo was also made in limited numbers, maybe somewhere around five of them.

The 'brown' is walnut isn't it...the gloss version of autumglo.....
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.
