Most Recent 1960s Find

Post by admin »

Roy: I understand that you were spotted in London over the weekend. Did you pick up any good 60s material?

I would like to hear from others as well, regarding the last 1960's release that they purchased or acquired.

No did not buy anything as my better half was with me and I did not tell her till we got down there that we were going to see The Searchers though I had better not push my luck spending my time in record store's (do we still call them that now).

For clarification is your query related to the last piece of sixties music bought in the sixties or any sixties music bought recently.

I was thinking recently Roy. I recently obtained the "Shadows 50 Golden Greatest." A wonderful collection of their music.

I just bought a cd box with all the Kinks' PYE LP's in it(I think 10 cd's in all). Music is fine/great, but the box in itself is less impressive. The cd covers are copies of LP sleeves from different countries. So, if you happen to not be too skilled in Italian or Japanese, you'll miss the socalled sleevenotes!
Searchers amongst my teenage favourite music. Still fond of them, but earnestly a little puzzled they are considered THIS big! But I'm very excited about this forum, and will love to read it regularly, and also contribute!

Wow, Einar, that must be a massive collection. Is there a standout amongst the 10 CD's that comes to mind?

Recent ones: Herman's Hermits, "Both sides of", "Blaze" and eponymous (didn't find any of them very impressive, unfortunately) and - not sure if this counts - Loving Spoonful, "Daydream" - it took me three years to find it, literally!Image

Speaking of Herman's Hermits, does anyone know whether any release contains the original 45 rpm version of "Hold On"? The abkco CD "their greatest hits" is a redo of the vinyl greatest hits album, and replicates the alternative take of "Hold On" on it.

"Listen People" was always my favorite tune by them.

Peter! Kinks' three LPs in a row: Something Else, Village Green... and Lola vs. the Powerman and the money-go-round are triumphant. The latter I know well from vinyl, from the others I knew only wellknown tracks. There's more to the Kinks than just the hit singles! If I should pick one of their Lps only, it would have to be Village Green...

The Shadows, 50 Golden a man of taste clearly. Some great tracks on that especially like their version of Something, you may be interested in hearing the original version of Don't Cry for me which was longer and also Wonderful Land before the strings were added, I could go on and on

Gary I'll post Hold on but I am not 100% certain if it is the version you want

Village green rrrr-rules! (not only because it includes my favorite song by the band, "Picture book"), that's a kind of cult/legendary record here. I've got it some 5 years ago on a cassette... a friend of mine found it recently on CD in a supermarket and didn't miss a chance of course - gosh, you cannot imagine our surprise when we saw it, in a pile of "Star factory" "clone" records...

Sheena: I first bought 'Village Green' by The Kinks on LP in 1978. My friends didn't know what to think. I liked it a lot, but it certainly wasn't rock'n'roll or punk rock, so nobody knew what to call it. It became a guilty listening pleasure for me, much like The Kinks' concept albums from 1973-1976 that I soon acquired. Now today I have all of this music on CD. The remastered 3-disc 'Village Green' CD set is a marvel to behold.

I recently bought 2 good box sets at a very good price essentially for resale to be honest but decided to keep them. One was called Generations Of Love a 5 cd set which contains some fairly stuff. Help by Deep Purple, Strawberry Fields Forver by the band Tomorrow who somewhat of a cult following for a time.

Another a 3 cd set Good Morning Vietnam not a soundtrack album but songs I believe inspired by that movie. A mixed bag of stuff really Paint It black by Chris Farlowe to Where Have All the Flowers Gone by Kingston Trio
