Finally got a RIC Acoustic!

Post by myfretless »

Well, I did it. My wife is probably going to make me sell my Taylor. Maybe my Takemine as well. But it was worth it. Today I picked up a spanking new 730 Laramie 12 string in Fireglo. Amazing.

Thanks to Kenny, who happened to drop off the guitar at my local dealer. You're the best.

I'll post pics if I can figure out my wife's brand fangled new digital camera.

Thanks. I know it's hard to come by an acoustic in and of itself, but to come across a 12 string... well, that was something I just couldn't pass up!

And the Fireglo finish is amazing! Much more resplendent than my 360 FG. This new one looks like it's wet it's so shiny!

Yes, pics, please!

BTW, that's one that we simply must have for this year's SoCalCon!

Congrats, Brad.... As a happy Ric acoustic owner myself, I can heartily say that they are wonderful guitars! To be honest, I hardly ever play my Takamine any more--it felt like torture to go back to it when my Comstock was out of the house for a couple of weeks for a minor repair....

Well done, Brad.... great pick up!

As I recall from pics, Melissa's Comstock shines like crazy too - almost as much as Theo Kojak's skull! Image

Wow! Congratulations, Brad. That is great - I want to see pics too, I'm sure it's a beauty. Hopefully there will be more new acoustics available soon, too. I'd love a chance to get one.

Yes. I must take pictures for posterity. It's amazingly beautiful.

Here's the funny thing. I took it out last night to play with on the couch as my wife watched her American Idol and SHE DIDN'T NOTICE!

She did mention that the guitar was a very pretty red, but she didn't apparently think to wonder if it was new. Amazing.

Did you order it 17 years ago, or did you just happen to find one?

No, I didn't order it. I just checked on the RIC website and saw that this baby had been sent to a local music store (I had previously purchased a 4003 from them a while back). I figured it was sold before it hit the floor room but I took a chance and went over there anyway just to see if I could look at it.

I was told the normal story (i.e. - there still is a moratorium on orders). I think the store actually has a few old ones still on order that have not been delivered. But this particular guitar apparently was just hanging around at the factory and Kenny just brought it to the dealer and asked them if they wanted it. Silly question, of course they wanted it.

Apparently there were three other potential buyers that had come in that week as well, but since I had my credit card all polished and ready, I just pounced on it. I figured that even if RIC started taking orders today (which they aren't) it would still be probably 3 years before I ever saw the guitar.

I'll consider this my 40th birthday present as that's what I'll be in 3 years or so.

All that being said, does anyone have any idea how many acoustic 12 strings RIC has made in the last few years? I haven't seen many at all, and I've been checking ebay and things like that.
